The forecast said that it was not supposed to rain until 4pm. We started the Flatiron trail at 9am, and by 1130a, the rocks were already getting slick from too much water. Got as far as that treacherous final spot where one has to hoist oneself up one final stupid huge rock and decided against going any further. We weren't so much worried about going up, it was the coming down that we started to fret over and it took us two hours to basically hike all the way back down on our butts. Siphon draw was a water slide. This is a great hike, just I would never try doing it in the rain ever again. However, we were proud of ourselves that we didn't break our necks or even our ankles and it was super gorgeous out there.

Lived here since 1994 and never hiked The Peralta Trail/Fremont Saddle until today. Wow. Was I missing out on a fantastic view from Fremont Saddle! Was a steeper hike than I expected, but it was good exercise. Was nice and breezy at the saddle. Totally worth the effort.

Hubby and I accidentally did this beast of a hike. What we really wanted to do was hike the Weaver's Needle Loop counterclockwise, but made a wrong turn along the way and kept going with our mistake. Normally, we like to hike Flat Iron as our New Year's/1st January hike, and we thought we'd take it easy this year. No such luck as we ended up being just as hard on ourselves as if we were hiking the Flatiron. Totally worth it, though, as this hike was an insane way to start off the year. Every hike from here on out will seem like a walk in the park.

Visited Kinishba under a hot July sun, but didn't mind sweating while exploring these fascinating ruins. The place is so zen, being out in the middle of nowhere. Just watch out for the wild horses as they are a happy bunch and will nearly run into your car whilst frolicking in the desert.

Driving phx to canyon de chelly involved bringing a hefty stash of good car tunes. But, omg...so worth it. The place is truly magical. A genuine zen spot on this planet. Hot, hot in July, but, oh well. One goes when one can....

Attempted to do Flatiron today. Got a wild hair and decided against parking at Lost Dutchman's and parked in the neighborhood at the base of the mountain. Last time on top of Flatiron, we looked down and thought, 'Hey, that neighborhood looks like closer parking for next time." Word of warning, it's not. Was an even longer slog to Siphon Draw via Jacob's Crosscut, which, btw, we did not find on the way up. Took the major scenic route. Was too exhausted to go up to Flatiron by the time we got to Siphon and called it good. Actually, it was a nice, peaceful hike. Heard wind in a saguaro. Never heard that before. Was crowded! by the time we reached a real trail head and appreciated our quiet hike back along Jacob's.

Had a great trip at SP Crater. No one was around except the wind and cattle. Perfect solitude.

Great site, despite the crowds and graffiti. Love all the antelope glyphs. Lends a sense of time and place.

Started off the new year with a hike in the 'ol Sups. Weather was breezy and sky was sunny. A bit too early in the season for wildflowers and a bit too late for water to be falling ala waterfall style, but oh, well, it was still nice to get out and start the new year in such beautiful surroundings. Hordes of others were thinking the same, as the trail was full of friendly happy peeps! Cheers to all!
Also make the requisite stop at Goldfield Mine down the road. I can't help adoring that cheesy touristy place.
