Decided to check out this trail. My sister and I arrived just before 11am and ended up leaving just a bit after 3pm. The trail is excellently done with lots of benches for reflection and with the tribute to each of the hotshots along the way.. they did steps of stone that are good for short legged people. The site really puts into perspective the incident.

My Husband and I both did the 10K this year since he is going to run the Phoenix Marathon in 2 weeks.. We got to the start line just in time for the gun for the 1/2 to take off.. so didn't get to see them go off.. but did our race my husband running and getting 3rd in his age group and I walked it... was a bit warm this year my husband was kinda glad that he didn't do the full this year..

Since this is so close to the Cabin and we couldn't do the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim we did the East Clear Creek hike. I have wanted to see where it goes on the other side of Mack's Crossing so did that too.. The creek was cold. (rocks were slick and in went my feet) It was really windy and felt more like Autumn.

The oaks were starting to turn yellow and there were a few red woodvines too.

Was a nice day for the hike. We hiked up and the weather was perfect. Had some scrambling to the top on some rocks cliffs and the view was really neat. There were all kinds of dogs up there trying to figure out how that was done! Mosquitoes were a little bit worse at the bottom.

While my husband ran the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon, I walked to many spots to get pictures and cheer him on. From the hotel up to the start line and down to the 10K mark, at the 13 and 17 mile marks, and the finishline (the trolley was used in part of it). This year they ended up by Petco Park. Then the 1.5 mile walk with my husband to the hotel again.

Did my 5th 10K Whiskey Row in Prescott. I walked the course starting at the Plaza and ending at the Plaza. Went out with some good views of Thumb Butte and the city of Prescott. They had all kinds of entertainment at the finish line.

I did the Brian Mickelsen 10K in Cottonwood AZ. Was a nice day. They have a Marathon, 1/2, 10K and 2 mile fun run. It starts down by the Verde River and goes through Dead Horse State Park.

Since the comet PAN-STARRS was so low in the western sky wasn't visable from our house. So we took the portable setup down the by the airport so that could get a view of the comet on multiple nights. A started up subdivision with a dead end street was the location with no one in the one house that is built. A couple dozen of other comet chasers taking picture and viewing also found the spot..

So had to work on the weekend so I knew I wouldn't be doing a full day and the flowers are blooming along the Beeline. I decided to take my camera and try to get a few pictures. Stopping at the Balentine TH took a short walk to a few flowers (looks like they only allowed purple ones here). The best poppies I saw were on the road to Gisela. The poppies are exploding on the southside of the hills and all along the road.

Another Lost Dutchman marathon/10k walk. While my husband completed the full marathon I walked the 10K. Not my best time but not the worse one either... Weather was perfect for it this year with the temps at start at 48 and 70 when finish cheering on my husband to the finish line.

My husband and I did the 10K of the Sedona Marathon races. Was a nice day starting near the Medical center on the west side of Sedona and then out the Dry Creek Road. they had about 2400 people sign up. We then took a ride out Dry Creek Road to look at the Biodiversity of the Hermit Shale. (Look at trace fossils of the streams in the Permian)

Was the first year at the PF Chang's Marathon/Half/Mini/Relay/Bike Tour for the mini.. My husband was running the Marathon so decide to walk the mini (I am not a runner). Started out in Downtown Tempe on Mill. Went south to University. Then North to the salt river then west along the Salt River/Tempe Town Lake to Tempe Town Park then South on Rio Salado to ASU Sundome parking lot. Was a nice walk along there for a city one..

We decided kind of last minute to drive to Page for the annular eclipse. Partly because the weather would dictate how where we would go. So we drove the 4 and 1/2 hours on the morning of the eclipse knowing that there were going to be lots of people there. I remembered a spot I thought we would have a good horizon for the eclipse, well not knowing that was where the park service was having their public viewing session. We left the house at 5am and drove to Page arriving at the site at 1030. Then talked to the park rangers and found a place to set up for the eclipse. Then we just hung around taking pictures talking to people and enjoying the view. About 2pm they closed the parking lot since it was full now. They were going to shuttle people up from the Dam visitor center. About 530 everyone looking through cameras, glasses, and scopes when first contact was made and shouts went across the field of first contact and cheers... And all were quiet as cameras clicked. Then when the moon was inside the circle of the sun another cheer went on as well as when it was totally centered in the middle of the sun. After the moon left the middle of the sun and on its way out lots of people started leaving .. we waited till after the sun had set before we tore down. Then back to the house after a stop in town.. arrived home at 1230 on Monday morning... was well worth the long day!! More pictures will be on our website later http://www.schursastrophotography.com

With about a 1.3 mile walk to the trailhead from my house walked to the TH and then walked along the trail up to Sonic for lunch... Was going to walk back but ended up walking though town. Saw a nice bull snake along the way sitting in the middle of the road.

The Circle the Peak Trail Run/Hike took place on the Monument Peak section of the P.A.T.S. (Payson Area Trail System) trails. There were about 40 runners/hikers on this partly cloudy day. The start was at the Granite Dells rd and went back up the road to the Trail head for the Monument Peak Trail. We did the loop in a counter clockwise direction. The trail is mostly decomposed granite and is used by ATV, horses, bikes, and hikers. We traveled around the loop past a small pond and to the water stop just before the halfway mark. Then going on thru and next to a small stream continued down the trail back to the road and then to the finish line. My time was 65 minutes for the 4 miles. (not the last at least) There was a post race refreshments done by Safeway stores for funds for the Prostrate cancer research. The temperature was really nice for the race at about 60 degrees...

My husband and I decided to try out our cameras and do a little bit of fossil hunting at the Famous Naco site... The really good site was paved over when they relayed out the road as destroying one of the only places we have found some rare echinoderms...

My husband Chris and I finally made it to the end of this trail and was not disappointed in it. The views along the trail are really nice. (there was some haze in the air and could have been a little bit better) You can see San Fransisco peaks along the way. Was a little bit warm in the areas were the trees were thinner due to fire damage but it is growing up in the areas nicely. There was even a guy coming back from the point that had camped out there. We came across about 20 people in groups of two mainly so wasn't crowded in the 5 hours that we hiked along. Looks like in he next couple of weeks there will be lots of Lupine out here as I saw the leaves in great abundance but not blooming yet. Just shared the end with one other couple eating their lunch with one of the best views of the canyon. No bugs to speak of up there. We chased a Western Tanger to get his picture along the way as well as a small herd of 4 deer. There were lots of nuthatch birds as well as many others. Was really nice day...
