Perfect weather to hike to the Verde Rim. The views were outstanding. The view across the Verde River Valley is the most Grand Canyon-like view I have seen in Arizona besides the Grand Canyon! Fair amount of water in the first couple miles of the hike. I was surprised.

Hiked this trail yesterday with the intention of going all the way up the El Oso road, but took a wrong turn at a 3-fork junction about 4 miles up the trail near Boulder Flat. I took the trail veering to the left which turned out to be the 'Pipeline' trail. I didn't realize this until about a mile up the trail, then had to turn around. Take the center fork! It is the actual Ballaltine trail. Anyway, I did go back and follow the correct trail for about another 1/2 mile. Started to get into some pinyon pines, then I had to turn around due to time constraints. Plan to do this again in a couple weeks or so, but I'll make it all the way to the top this time.

Hiked the North Peak trail all the way to 'The Park' and then south on the Divide trail maybe a 1/2 mile. Fortunately I was able to do this just a few days before the Willow fire burned the whole area.

The water is flowing like crazy! You can hear the creek far below as you hike. Too many waterfalls to count. Hike this trail soon before the creeks and falls become a trickle or dry up.

Easiest 3000 feet I've ever climbed. Lots of snow in South Fork Deer Creek canyon. Beware on the descent of the Gold Ridge trail, no switchbacks therefore very hard on the knees.

Arrived at the trailhead at 8:15. Took 2 1/2 hrs to get to the top. 45 minute stay up there and 2 1/4 hrs to get back down. Great views!

Traversed the last few miles of this trail to Aztec Peak via FR 487 last year. Great respite from the summer heat and a jewel of a waterfall even though it was just a trickle. It must be spectacular when there is snowmelt or after heavy rains. One of the best kept secrets of Arizona in my opinion.
