The 3, 4, and 7 year old kids liked this trail, despite the 1000ft climb in just over a mile. At the very beginning, there was a part of the trail that was washed out and created a narrow section, but easily completed with holding hte 3 and 4 year-olds' hands. The trail continued past the spring, but considering that the map didn't have it at all (even as unmaintained), we decided not to adventure up it with the kids. The hike was so fast, we didn't need our packed lunch. Definitely a good morning hike with little kids.

There was absolutely no water here and it looked like there hadn't been for quite a while.

An easy hike starting at the Douglas Spring TH and taking the Garwood trail to the Three Tanks trail. Since we only had a couple of hours, we had to turn around at this point. With only a slight elevation gain, the hike gave nice views of the city of Tucson. The 3, 4, and 7 year old kids had an easy time with the hike. There is no shade on this trail, so it is best to do in the early morning before the sun becomes harsh. Horses are allowed on this trail, so watch out for droppings.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we took the kids (3, 4, and 7) to Sabino Canyon for a stroll. We decided to head off the tram trail and look at the scenery. With all the winter rain, the creek was flowing well and the dam was full. The Sabino Dam trail was shaded and really easy to walk, although some of the areas were hard to track across the wash bed. The Phone Line Link trail was rather steep with a lot of switchbacks. My 7 year old did fantastic, but it was rougher on the littler boys. We ended by heading out on the Phone Line back to Bear Canyon. This trail is not shaded at all and not recommended in the middle of the day as the UV index will cause sunburns, especially in little kids. With all the linking trails with varying distances, it is a great place to take kids to hike because you can bail out to the tram trail at many different times.

We took advantage of an unusually warm October weekend and camped up on Mt. Graham. We took the kids (3, 4, and 6) on the Cunningham Loop trail. Being late in the season, we didn't run into any other people. The trail is wide in most areas, as it is also a mountain biking trail. Mostly level, the trail pretty much goes up the 350-400 feet in elevation in one area and then down in one area. On the back half (if you go to the left at the start of the loop), you decend in narrow switchbacks, but none are near any cliffs, so you don't have to worry about little feet slipping too far. The trail is shady much of the way and would be great to hike in late spring, summer and early fall. A good trail for kids, if they are okay with a longer distance and you are willing to take some breaks. There is the opportunity to link over to the Grant Hill loop for an 11+ mile adventure.

We did this trip with my 3, 4, and 6 year old kids. For little kids, this trail has some steep sections and narrow trails, but none that they couldn't complete while holding a hand. The beginning of the trail, which also leads to Kent Springs and Four Springs, doesn't have much shade, so it is good to start before the heat of the day. Once you are on the Bog Springs trail, there is more shade, but some steep and narrow sections (as I described above). There are also some good (but not spectacular) views of the canyon out towards Green Valley, AZ. This was the first "real hike" for my kids and they did great. The springs only had stagnant water, so I recommend that you pack your own. We were back by lunch time, even with several stops to rest little legs.
