This morning when I woke up the temp was at 28-degrees - I was seriously having second thoughts about weather I wanted to go out or not. However The sun came out and it was chilly - but beautiful. Lots of people made the same trek today, had lunch at the petroglyphs and came home.

The day started off cool, and cloudy. We headed up the trail at about 11am, but it was cool enough to warrant my fleece. About 1/2 mile into the hike we were visited by a baby deer who was bouncing down the hill about 25 yards off the trail. We made it up to the petroglyphs at about 11:45, ate lunch and did some exploring. The Supes were absolutely stunning today. (When aren't they)

Took a group of 5 urban teens on the trail and had a great time. They couldn't get enough of Fat Man's Pass. It was like a big playground for them. The whether was beautiful, while we were hiking up National we came across a beautiful Desert Patch-Nosed Snake, sunning itself on the trail. We took time to watch it slither off into the bushes.

Not a bad day at the office.

Went out on a Monday morning in December, we only saw 2 other people on the trail. We started out at about 9:20, the weather was cool, and clear. I left my fleece in the car - that was my only mistake, we topped out at the saddle at 10:50 the wind was kicking and I was quite chilly. The veiw from the top was amazing - In both directions. After a short break of freezing on top of a rock over looking the needle, we headed down. I really enjoyed myself but I don't think I would have had the same experience if the trail would have been very crowded. I can understand, however, why the trail is so popular, close to town, diverse vegitation, and killer views. Not a bad way to spend the morning.

This is a great local hike for anybody who doesn't have the time to travel out of town. I hiked up the National trail and came back down the Mormon Trail, it made for a fun loop. Hidden Valley is a great little area, with the tunnel and fat mans pass being the highlights. There were very few people on the trail today - especially once I started climbing National. I will be making this loop one of my regulars.

Hiked in from the the hilltop and out on the Flume Road. - It was a great shuttle hike. I was expecting big crowds since it was October break here in the valley but was pleasantly surprised. There were a couple of groups besides ourselves who were camping down there, everyone else we saw seemed to be day trippers.

We hiked in on Friday afternoon and out about the same time on Saturday, the trail from the hilltop seemed to be shorter and have more shade.

The skunks down at the bottom have no fear and are fun to watch. Make sure to keep your food off the ground.

The morning temps were cool, and the water seemed quite warm. After a day of swimming, rope-swinging, and cliff jumping we headed out via the flume road.

Wind cave is a great trail for a quick, during the week hike, especially for those of us that live in north east Mesa. I've lived about 6 miles from Usery for the past year and this was my fist time on the trail. The trail is in great shape and the quick 1.7 miles up is a great little workout. I really enjoyed myself.

Had a great time hiking Horton Creek. We left the valley at 6:30am, made a couple of stops in Payson and were on the trail by 9:00am. It was overcast and cool for most of the day with the sun peeking out on occasion. The area has received lots of rain lately and the everything was green. On several sections of the trail the meadow grass was at least waist high.

After about 2 miles we came accross a campsite that was situated on the other side of the creek. It was the work of some very ingenious campers as they had made a couple of chairs out of flat stones complete with ottomans, which I must admit were quite comfortable. We explored the area around the creek for quite some time.

After playing around for a little while at the spring we started heading back, by the time we got going the sky was getting dark and we thought me might get caught in a storm - but no such luck.

As always Supai was great. We were a little worried going in because it had rained and snowed up there all week but we hit it just right. - Blue skys, green water, and all the fun you could ask for. It got a little crowded on Friday and Saturday, I understand they had a full house.

A great hike. This was my first time on this trail. We had a beautiful day, lots of running water and the ruins were great. Although there were 12-15 cars in the lot we only came accross 3 other groups on the trail.
Perfect way to spend a day!
