Ok, To start off, once you get down to the stream, you are going to get WET, We procrastinated for a lil while and one of our party tried to jump a narrow section and ended up over extending his knee which ended his hike.... We all thought this hike had a few areas we would need to cross and maybe possible to find rocks to jump across, but NO... You will be Wading back and forth across this stream 20% of the time... So, suck it up n Wade Across n get use to the water... Dec 13, The Temp was belown 36 @ 7am, Frost everywhere, and sand areas where clumped frozen together... Rained the day before a little bit also.... ok now for the hike:
Suck it up n wade into the first crossing / ICE water to put it lightly, frozen digits on ur feet.. You are going to get WET,,, We walked across n switch back across river back and forth, there are multiple trails / game trails to follow, just stay near stream, so you don't accidentally take a side canyon out :P.. The water was ICE cold and exiting the water mixed with air, seemed colder so when u went back in the water, it felt warmer.. About a Mile in we passed a concrete-ish wall, maybe an old road? , the bends and curves of this canyon were amazing, with multiple places to pop up a camp for a night,, next time !!... each bend in the canyon, was more and more fascinating as we went along.. This trip we only went 3.25 miles in since we didnt want the injured party to wait toooo long for us :p,,, were saying ok, one more turn then go back..lol.. Awesome time ! well worth the freezing water.

Theres trails everywhere, so not much bushwacking needed, unless you are trying to stay dry:D ... Water levels for us short guys, (all about 5'6") was knee high..

Cell signal / Verizon n sprint = 0 Signal from trailhead throughout

Very nice hike, gradual climbs up and over, some of the trail is like a wash and some areas are a little narrow for footing... Cholla's are also present on trail, got stuck a couple times. Great views was awesome weather, 430am heading out, little dark, but we managed just fine. After the Flats, we ventured along the trail a little further to see what was around the bend, saw some fresh prickly pear eatings, but didnt see any javelina. I think that bend might have had another loop to get back to where we parked, but didnt want to search as our phones were losing battery strength pretty quick since we used as flashlights at the beginning, so we headed back and too the north side loop at the crossing. Didnt see any deer either, but looked like a great area for them.. maybe next time.

FYI. Verizon phones, had almost 0 signal after getting away from the freeway. GPS was working fine tho,, so Route Scout was doing its job. :D

Now, to start out, Let me tell you, I am 50lbs over weight and in moderate shape, been hiking for a few months and before this, I thought Toms Thumb was tough, but now... not so much,,,

Started out 530 am in Starlight temp in low 70's. the plan was to hit Siphon Draw n then debate where to from there..
Hike is a constant decent incline up and gets your heart going even though the incline doesn’t seem like much.. very moderate hiking/ walking nice trail up to the base of Siphon Draw. We conquered Siphon Draw, and I actually climbed a little knoll wall for a photo.. Thinking and feeling great still, like great workout, lets go ahead n conquer this so called Flat Iron, since you know, no wasted distance via switch backs, but then the fun began, up and over the little knoll on top of Siphon Draw, then into the wash/stream area using your hands almost the rest of the way. there were a few 5-6 areas where I had to use my knee into a crevice just to get a little pivot to reach a foot hole to get over each obstacle. Now near the top, that 10ft Wall... U can go up to the right, a little knee action hang out over n step up on the top, or pull yourself up via tree that helps u as you find foot holes. ,,, booom,,, Thats It..... whewwwww, but I knew i passed my halfway point, kinda like if you out driving, and your tank gets to 50%, need to go back ... Well I missed that turn awhile ago... Going down,, oh my,, actually the wall was the hardest part, but I used that tree area to hang down till I felt my foot find footing enough to get down,, I was already beat, but still in shade until about Siphon Draw.. most of the obstacles on way down were much easier, using the sit on ur pumpkin n shimmy down technique, which was working really well for me,, just about to Siphon Draw, i noticed any pausing on a stretched leg, my knee would spasm, like giving a toddler the lil pony leg to keep em quiet bouncing.. anyways, Siphon draw down was almost ALL sun, and I felt HOT , kept drinking water, . the rest of the descent was moderate again, ... I was at this time battling the heat, and was taking shorter steps, my head once in awhile was getting the starry kewl tingling almost like getting the chills but NOT... LOL,, sucking my water down and made it back to the Truck,,, we parked at the mining camp Restaurant..

Would I do this Agian ? NO
Did I enjoy it? Yes
Was it worth it? Yes, to say I did it, along with the extra workout

Pros: Excellent hike as not really scaling a mountain but getting through the rocks and up little fall areas made for excellent scrambling. Beautiful view on top, Mostly well defined trail (please put the white and blue dots back as many are missing)

Cons: misjudged it for my skillset. that long of a hike, we were heading down way too late too hot even though we started at 530am.. More Water :D

Headed out at 5am ish, caught an awesome sunrisehttps://scontent.xx.fb...

Heard a few coyotes before climbing down into river area, a little thorny, here and there nice area makes you think of sleepy hollow area.. caught 3 doe running out of the area in 2 different areas, a few areas of SAND/Powder type walking then on some river rocks, you can pretty much trailblaze through n up to the turn where you head up into the mountain. Excellent river areas, would've been great to bring a portable fishing rod.. hmmmm. The "trail" up wasnt as outlined as we normally see and was also grassy with the annoying "awns", mostly following different game trails up to the middle aiming towards where it looks like there would be an awesome waterfall if it was raining,, we hiked up to where it almost looked like there would be a pool up there, but none to see.. back down a little and my pal walked out on top of the arch, nice pics.. quenched our thirst and relaxed for about 5 minutes, took the grass "awns" out of socks for the time being.. Walked a litte ways west to find alternate route back, to find it got pretty steep around the bend and went back to the arch, and down at a slighly different Angle. We headed all the way down to the river n followed the river back to the trail n out.. took us about 4 hours, not too difficult of a hike, took lots of pics.. Here's Andy on top of the arch https://scontent.xx.fb... will play more in this area for sure, love hiking by water..

Turks Head, is a great hike, very easy and well traveled trail. Saw a bunch of milipedes https://scontent.xx.fb... just after the rain from previous night. The route up the "head" is pretty much a scamble to your preference, we followed some Caroms, but then just jumped back n forth to the top/ watch out for cholla's, but at top awesome views, heres a couple:

We took Dynamite first around to SA to Golmine, back to the trailhead. The rough/Steep area on Goldmine, was a little steep and rough for some hikers, I am glad we went the direction we did, as going down the steeper rough area was a lot easier than going up it.. Will Definitely do this one again in future.. :y:
