Decided to start the new year off right so I tagged along with my dad and brother to a hike in White Canyon Wilderness. New area for me and this hike is definitely a favorite. Great scenery and the view of the canyon was breathtaking. Pictures don't do it justice. Didn't run into anyone else until we were on the road back where we passed a few who were heading out to hunt.

For my first big girl hike, we decided on Fossil Creek. I was excited to see something different than South Mountain. The falls and views were awesome. There was a nice breeze when we got started and even as the day went on, it didn't seem to get too hot until we were hiking out and I was tired since we had already gone 13+ miles! ;) I was just as happy as Cup was when the clouds rolled in and we got teased with a few seconds of rain. Came across what I learned to be a kingsnake during our off-trail adventure. Unfortunately, I was trying to get Lee's attention to look at it and didn't even think about getting a picture. Missed opportunity.

Before this trip, I had never hiked more than 7 miles, so I was feeling pretty accomplished towards the end (once I knew we were almost back to the car and it had cooled off I got my second wind). Great trip with beautiful views. I would love to go back- next time I would spend some time playing in the water.

Something I learned: Bring more water; There is room for improvement on my navigation skills...
And, most importantly, add 5 miles to any future hike with friendofThundergod.

Talked my mom into taking a short hike while on vacation. Crystal Cove State Park was close to where we were staying so decided to check it out. Did the 'difficult' loop which wasn't all that difficult if you ask me. A nice walk with good ocean views though. Started at Moro Canyon to East Cut Across to Moro Ridge and finished down BFI. No rattlesnakes or mountain lions were seen.. It's $15 fee to use the park for the day, which if you plan to stay all day would be worth it. we left right after the hike- wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was nice to get out and walk off some of the good food we have had here! Back to real life tomorrow..

Was going to do Toms Thumb today but didn't plan very well so decided to stay close to home and pick a new trail on SM. Keeping with my tradition of going off trail, I got a little disoriented on the climb. So much that I thought I would just head back down in the general direction I came from (I was basically scaling the mountainside) and wouldn't you know, as I was trying to strategize how to get down without sliding, I found the trail! :D Clear as day.. Not sure where I lost it.. After that point, it was pretty straightforward. I did miss the turnoff from National to start heading back down, but caught that fairly quick. Saw some millipedes and some hole I would've liked to check out had I not been alone. I would do this hike again. Maybe next time I'll actually follow the trail up!

Allergies put me off to a late start but got out for a quick hike around 8:30. Nice views. Saw a few hikers on the initial climb but they didn't follow the trail all the way to where it meets National like I did. Next time i think ill go a little farther. It started getting toasty up there....

Got on the trail just before 7am- weather was perfect for a hike. My dad had me download HAZ Tracks app, so i had the trail uploaded. Even with the app i got off trail a few times, but managed to realize it before going too far! :D the ascent was a little more than i expected, im still new at this ;) but the views were worth the climb. Crossed paths with a few guys doing some trail maintenance and 2other hikers, but for the most part had the trail to myself. No gnats! :y:

Quick hike at South Mountain with my cousin. Went early since they were calling for a high of 95. Have gotten pretty familiar with hiking Hidden Valley and wanted to try something new. Nice little hike with great views. We started the Loop right off national trail from Pima canyon, so didn't do the incline up (did the decent instead on the way back). Took the easy way! :) Overall, enjoyed this trail. Only downfall were all the gnats!!! :(
