One of the most stunning hikes I have been on in Sedona. The trail up was incredibly nice. I was expecting it to be more like Thunder Mountain and it wasn't. Not sure why since Thunder Mountain doesn't exactly have a trail and Bear Mountain does, but I guess the look similar enough :-k But the views on this blew my mind. I loved seeing Boynton Canyon from the top and it brought back awesome memories of being down in that canyon and how amazing that hike was as well. Sedona continues to surprise me and I cannot wait to find more hikes to do there. Now if only the government can start working again so that I can buy my annual red rock pass :D

Second hike of the year and 2/52. Did this a day after it rained and the clouds were still hanging around. The entire mountain was covered and I wondered if it was a smart idea to try this hike. But it was absolutely worth it. It was so much fun getting to hike in the clouds and seeing the mountain disappear around you. As I got to the thumb the clouds began clearing out and I got to see more of the mountain on my hike down. The McDowells are beautiful mountains and I can't wait to go back when it is sunny!

Decided that my goal for the new year is a 52 hike challenge. This was my first for the year and it was absolutely amazing. It had snowed for New Year's Eve and I decided on Saturday to go check to see if there was still snow remaining. Well, there definitely was. Decided to do a short hike to the waterfall and check it out. Someone recently tied a rope up there which is annoying af but I won't be trying to climb that to remove it. Awesome first hike!

Back at one of my favorite hikes for the fourth time. It has been 2 years since I have been in these mountains. Wanting to catch the sunset from the peak and with poor time planning I had to race up the mountain. Managed to hit the summit right as the sky turned the rocks red. Pushed a little hard on this one but it was worth the sunset views.

I absolutely love this trail. The unique rock flecked with mica. The huge chunks of quartz at the top. This is one of my absolute favorite hikes to do. Could tell that the roads to it have gotten a little worse but it was nice getting the tacoma out on the dirt.

After passing it by a few times heading south to go caving, I finally got to check out this iconic hike. Had no idea what to expect and was imagining a Picketpost feel but it turns out that this was nothing like that. I loved the climbing to the top and the exposure. Was a bit chilly and lots of hot and cold on this hike based on how the wind was blowing through the rocks- one minute I was feeling toasty then the next the wind was whipping through and freezing.

Turned this into a loop with a car at each parking lot and headed up the Hunter trail and then down through the Sunset Vista trail. Loved seeing the colors from the top- yellows and pinks and greens and blues. Definitely a fun hike and of course checked out the gift shop on the way down. It's my goal to collect a magnet from every place I visit that sells them!!

After hiking Parson's trail and eager for more river hikes I was told this hike didn't need a permit starting in October. Drove down with the pups and hiked into the beautiful red rock. It is so amazing seeing the geology of various regions and realizing how they all connect together.

Nice, easy hike down with lots of shade. Trail was well graded. Once we hit the river the pups loved it and enjoyed the water. Went to the left at the fork to check out the river and came out on top of the "toilet bowl". If I didn't have the dogs I would've loved to check it out more but it quickly ended in a rocky cliff and I didn't want them accidentally slipping in. But being on top of the waterfall was really cool. Had the place mostly to myself. Only a few other people there.

Doubled back and went to the right of the fork this time to check out the dam site and see the waterfall. Was absolutely beautiful to see and learned that this river was the fourth largest travertine system in the US. Missed all the leaves changing which I bet made for an epic hike, but I thoroughly enjoyed this trail!!

This hike is on my favorite list now. Friend suggested it and with no idea what to expect I went along. I rarely hike by rivers and with the leaves changing color, I fell in love with this hike. Definitely one of my favorites by far and would like to come back when it is warmer to swim in it- though not sure how crowded it gets.

The river offered so many unique views and the towering red cliffs added to the beautiful scenery. We continued on past the popular swimming area and went all the way to the "end" which was Parson's spring. It's so cool to see how this river just forms out of "nothing". One minute there is water then the next it is dry land. I would love to make this into a backpack and continue on past where we stopped because I saw some beautiful cliffs in the distance that I want to explore.

Got invited as a last minute attendee on this trip. Only got to stay for one night but this place absolutely blew my mind. The water really is that blue. It was such a cool experience and my first backpacking trip. Having slept for four hours the night before I was not the happiest at being awake at 5 am and hiking down into the canyon. But along the way we ran into some people that my friend new and ended up sticking with them through the whole trip and boy was I glad that we did. Turns out I don't know anything about backpacking and now I know a lot more.

We arrived at the village around 9 am and got our wristbands. After grabbing some food in the cafeteria and waiting forever for it to be cooked we finally headed down to the campsite. It was truly something else. Catching our first glimpse of the river halfway there we stopped to take pics and marvel at the water. Then we made it to Havasu falls and I stood there in awe of this huge roaring waterfall. First time I've ever seen a "big" waterfall. Finally made it down to choose the best campsite right by the top of Mooney falls. Set up camp and ate a snack before heading down to Mooney and getting to see the most famous Arizona waterfall. The hike down was awesome- slick and wet and slippery. But those caving skills came in handy again and I wasn't nervous. We hiked down past the falls into a side canyon where we enjoyed a steak cooked over a jetboil. Most delicious meat I've ever eaten.

Afterwards we headed back to camp for dinner before going out and checking out Havasu falls. As it grew dark we went to explore this abandoned mine. The rock inside was absolutely beautiful and getting to check out the mine made my caver side happy. Afterwards we sat under the stars admiring them against the glare of the full moon before finally heading to bed.

In the morning we packed a breakfast and headed to Beaver Falls to see the famous waterfalls. I managed to get in the cold water and waded deeper upriver to explore. Saw some of the most unique beautiful scenery. The hike to Beaver Falls was one of my favorite. It was like being in a jungle...in the bottom of a canyon. So amazing :D

Did about 30 miles in two days. Blew my mind that my body was strong enough to do that with a 35 lb pack but it was pretty amazing and I definitely cannot wait to do more backpacking trips!

Did this gem of a hike after my week in Utah and right before my Havasupai trip. Was nice and easy and easy to find with GPS. Climbed into the cave and climbed out to the top of the cave, too. Everything went well except for one random sharp bush that gave me a nice cut that has decided to leave a scar :|

Loved this hike though and it satisfied my caving side :D

Hard to choose between this park and Zion as my favorite in Utah. Moab was definitely my favorite. I would love to live in a city where I was surrounded my towering cliffs and right next to some of the most beautiful land I have ever seen. Utah really blew my mind and was such a unique experience.

This loop was absolutely my favorite hike besides Angel's Landing. I love love love canyons for some reason so this was absolutely fun for me. We did the loop backwards starting with the easiest descent first and having to climb the steeper side out but this hike had everything. Towering cliff walls, a scramble over a boulder slide, a descent all the way to the bottom of the canyon, and such beautiful scenery that it felt like being in the Grand Canyon. I plan to come back to this park and check out more of its beautiful trails :D

First hiking trip out of the state! Very spontaneously planned. I knew I was taking a week off work but had no idea where I was going. Threw together a week in Utah with a hike in each park and off I went! Got to Zion Tuesday morning and had no idea what to expect. The drive into the park was absolutely blowing my mind and I wish I could've parked my car and walked the entire road there. But then driving through the tunnel and coming out of it was absolutely amazing. One of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen :D

Found parking near the shuttles and boarded one to take me to the famous Angel's Landing. Hauled butt up the trail and made it to the halfway point thinking it was the top. Then I realized that that wasn't the top and that we got to hike on that tiny little crack of a ridge to the real top. Oh boy. My kinda hiking :D

Followed the hordes of people up. Luckily most were polite and would stop to let people up or I'd stop to let them go down. After becoming a caver I became a lot more familiar with rock and felt pretty safe on it but some of the people going up made me hella nervous. I'm honestly surprised so many people do it with that kind of exposure but I guess more people are fearless than I thought. The views from the top were absolutely amazing and Zion is definitely one of my most favorite places now. I plan to go back and knock out a few of the other hikes there and just explore this amazing place :)

Also totally raided the gift shop and bought all the geology books I could find

Feeling ambitious over a holiday weekend I headed to northern Arizona with the pups. Wanted to let them play in the river so we headed to Lees Ferry first- my absolute favorite place on this planet. Then feeling a bit intimidated by the reports of sandy roads, I headed to White Pocket. As I was driving between the Kaibab plateau and the Vermillion Cliffs, a storm was bearing down on me. One half was sunny, the other rumbled ominously with thunder. And I was following google maps. Bad idea.

The turn off had be go halfway up the plateau and immediately enter some sketch territory. Almost lost my GPS after I got off track but managed to find it and make my way back to the correct road. As I was pulling out some dude in a pickup comes bumbling up this beautifully smooth dirt road and it made me angry. Because I had spent all that time lost and slightly terrified while the thunderstorm hit and it hailed and was cold and intense and here this dude comes bumbling along on the correct route. But makes for a good story right?

Found the turn off for the sandy road easily and switched to four high. Felt the sand catching my tires at times but made it through no problem and enjoyed the new challenge. After the roads I had just went through this was a breeze. Made it to the parking lot and was loving the mountains surrounding it and marveling at this giant plateau with these teeny little rock formations that someone just had to find up here. The dogs loved exploring it and it was a lot of fun to see the formations. Such a beautiful place and one of my new favorites, along with Lees Ferry. I love seeing the geology connect and understanding how the regions are formed.

My first time ever being in a cave absolutely blew my mind and I instantly fell in love. After joining a caving grotto I was invited to go to Pepper Sauce on my first real caving trip. Gear was provided and with an excellent guide who showed us all the cool areas, we got to explore this huge cave. I had no idea what to expect and it just blew me away. It was so amazing and so beautiful despite the lack of formations.

I have since been in six caves and each has been harder than the last. But exploring underground is such a beautiful contrast to the highest peaks and I am proud to be able to get to see everything this world has to offer.

Please do not go in this cave without gear. If you would like advice for caving, PM me.

Finally got to knock this peak out. Third times the charm as they always say. Got to play a little on this hike too as I took a friend to see the bomber crash site before we hiked to the top. Was absolutely humbling being back to that site again. This hike was nice and painful near the top. Nice and cool even in May. Packed sandwiches for the top and enjoyed the view. Absolutely loved seeing the pinks of the painted desert and tried to find the Grand Canyon but I think it was too polluted to see that day. Felt good to finally kick this mountain's butt and make the summit.

Finally knocked out a Grand Canyon hike! Been in Arizona most of my life and have never actually hiked in the canyon. Last time I was there was as a child. And let me tell ya that this is one of the most brutally painful hikes I have ever been on. The only other exception being the motherlode. This trail is nice and beautiful and so well graded. Most people stop at the halfway point at Skeleton Point so finishing the hike down to the river wasn't too crowded. But boy oh boy was that hike a pain. We got too late of a start and I didn't get to peruse the gift shop and spend all my money on GC gear :(

But finally making it down to the Colorado was absolutely worth everything. Sitting at the bottom by the river with the Vishnu Schist was absolutely amazing- a step back in time. You couldn't see the top of the canyon and it felt like you'd just hiked to the bottom of a mountain, not a mile high canyon. Collapsing at the river was a much needed break. We chowed down and put feet in the river before heading back up for the inevitable painful hike to the top.

The sun beat down on us and although it wasn't too hot, the sun beating on the red rock didn't make for a pleasant ascent. The trail wasn't too steep and allowed for easy breathing but my legs and feet screamed with every step up. I wasn't in the best shape and that probably didn't help but that elevation gain really kicks your butt. The blisters didn't help either. The views however were stunning and it gave me a chance to try out the Canon I had bought a few months prior- my first camera ever. We finally made it near the top when we happened to run into Nick. He was a beautiful sight for sore eyes and gave us a ride back to my truck. I'd never been more happy to sit down than I was that evening.

Lessons learned on this one: Start early. Super early so you can make it to the gift shop in time.

Got to take a friend to my favorite place in Arizona!! The look on their face once we hit the top of this cliff was worth the lung crushing hike up. With breathtaking views of the Colorado river from both sides of the cliffs, this is my top hike to do. And getting to play in the river is fun, too. Short easy trail with lots of room to roam at the top. If you can make it to the radio tower it offers a nice high point to view everything from- though not sure if that many radio waves will fry your brain

Learning the history of this amazing place was pretty cool. It started as a Mormon crossing before finally being taken over by the government as a protected place. Loved bringing its history alive and imagining what it must have been like way back then, before roads and before anything marred the land- to imagine crossing over northern Arizona and into Utah.

Finally got to see the iconic Devil's Bridge. Did this the same day as Boynton. Did Boynton first, then feeling ambitious we parked at the Mescal trailhead and connected to Chuckwagon to get to Devil's Bridge. Nice full day of hiking. Crowd at the bridge didn't seem too bad. We were able to get a picture on the bridge with minimal people. The vertigo of seeing the bridge was certainly a good feeling. But what was more fun was exploring the bottom of the bridge and getting to climb around in there. Found a little cave to hide in! Seeing it from the bottom also made for a different perspective and impressive view. Glad I finally got to check this one out!

This was one of my absolute favorite hikes to date. I had no idea what to expect when I chose this hike. Literally just browsed the Sedona area on here and chose whatever hike sounded the most interesting. And boy was I pleasantly surprised. This hike itself was easy and at times I wondered if this was it, where it would end, if it would be worth it. But when we got to the "end" and climbed up onto the rock and climbed a bit higher for a better view..... wow. The towering cliffs and the distant views just absolutely blew my mind. Felt like I was in the Grand Canyon.

Would absolutely recommend this hike to anyone looking for an easy hike in Sedona who isn't afraid of climbing a little rock in the end to catch those views (go til you find the giant cairn for the best views). Any trail questions just PM me. :)

Had an absolutely amazing time on this mountain! Went up to Prescott with forecasts of snow and cold weather. Oh how I have missed hikes like these.

Got there around 3pm and managed to do this in about 4 hours. It was dark by the time we got back to the car but it was nice being able to see the stars again. Been a while since I have had a chance to see a dark sky filled with stars (thanks, Phoenix).

It was cloudy and snowed on us as we began our hike but soon the clouds cleared and we continued on with high winds. Absolutely magical for me as I am rarely in snow and I absolutely loved it. The trail is so nice and smooth and as much as I love my scramble hikes it was nice to take a break and enjoy an easy hike. First 8 mile hike in quite a few months. Stopped all activity due to a wrist injury and have been easing back into the hikes since December. I finally have my hiking legs back and have been happily kicking out these hikes! Feels so good hehe

We reached the summit long before sundown and took our time before heading back down during the sunset. Such a beautiful hike. Once you reach the saddle the trail takes you around the top and you get to see many viewpoints like Prescott and Chino Valley and the different terrain. A bit icy at the top but no one slipped luckily! Absolutely made my day being back in the little amount of snow at the top and feeling the rushing wind! Lots of huge rocks that would be fun to boulder on, too. I will definitely be coming back with my dogs as this trail was so nice and flat that they wouldn't have a problem!

"Why is this listed as a climb? I thought this was a hike..." Yea... I see why this is a climb now. And a hike. Been getting back into hiking after a long lull in the summer and fall. Not in the best shape yet and not climbing due to a wrist injury but when Nick invited me on this hike I had no idea what I was in for.

I hadn't realized how much I missed being in Northern Arizona until this hike. I had so much fun and it was so cool to see my rock climbing skills being put to use. I have come a long way since I started climbing and the rock faces on this mountain would have scared the crap out of me before. I was still nervous but as soon as I was up them I realized that my body knew exactly what to do.

Absolutely loved this hike. It's an amazing thing looking at a mountain without a trail and realizing that, yup, you can climb up it to the top. The hike was definitely difficult and if I hadn't been with someone who had already done it I probably would have no idea where I was going. But the way down highlighted the path pretty well and so I think I could find it if I were to ever go again. The views from the top were amazing and I absolutely loved being able to see the airport. I hadn't been on the western side of Sedona ever so it was a nice perspective. Sad to catch sight of Humphreys with barely any snow though :(

That being said this hike is definitely not for a novice. It involves serious climbing, steep drop-offs, loose rock, and a very faint trail to follow. So if you want a challenging hike, just hit me up!

Also, if anyone has suggestions of more hikes like this, I would love to hear them! :D
