New Hance is a steep trail, one that I much prefer to climb rather than go down it. Getting to Papago Canyon is an interesting area where you have to literally climb over an enormous rock slide to get into Papago Canyon. The amazing thing is, if the water levels were low enough, it would only require about 100-150 feet to get from one beach to the other, but instead you have to climb the rock slide to get around. Papago Canyon is a beautiful area with sandy beaches and a fantastic cliff where we were able to have shade the entire day. It's a nice secluded area, one that I was thankful for when we did our return trip up the New Hance trail, as at Hance Rapid's it appeared to be a campground with all the groups and people scattered all over the place. It seemed far from secluded or private. I was grateful for our secluded little oasis. |
