Nothing to write home about by joebartels Overview The park website says, "Originates at Ramada 13 and concludes at Ramada 9". Formerly known as H-5a. Hike This little trail is most likely used as the shortest route from the 67th Ave & Patrick Lane parking lot "K" to the top of Sunrise 1,682. Signage says it begins just 250 ft along Desert Iguana Trail at the low saddle. This disagrees with the park literature and has rather slippery micro pea-sized gravel in two spots. 250 ft further is a short switchback that travels better. Definitely not "at" Ramada 9. Use your best judgment and obey current signage. Other than mentioned above, the tread is good. If any, the upper third of this trail is the highlight. Continue on Sunrise Trail or head back down when you get to parking lot "H". Lot "H" is the end of 62nd Ave and the shortest option to ascend Sunrise 1,682. No Chuckwallas observed on my hike, which was late afternoon. March through May around the valley, I typically see them most around 10 am. Check out the Official Route and Triplogs. One-Way Notice This hike is listed as One-Way. When hiking several trails on a single "hike", log it with a generic name that describes the hike. Then link the trails traveled, check out the example. |
