backpacking to Anita Park/Anita Springs

Post by DesertratDeb »

Has anyone recently hiked the Crest trail in the Chirachua Mtns to Anita Park/ Anita Springs? I would love to spend an overnight again,but wondered what the fire damage was like and if the spring was still reliable.
Thanks for any info.

Please see pic from 2012, no live trees, spring was in good shape. I 've not been there recently. I would surmise there are some downed trees and a lot more under growth.

@rwstorm
Wow, I didn't think it could look worse than after the burn but I was wrong. :(

@moondancer627
The Las Cruces meetup group recently went there. It looks like Anita Spring is in their photoset. (I haven't hiked the Crest Trail since before the fire)

As a long time (30 years) fan of the the Chiri's I never ceased to be amazed at the both the terrible fire damage there as well as the remaining beauty. It is still worth going there.

(Who knows about Deb but) I am heading out to the general area this coming weekend. I haven't quite decided where yet.
