From the Prescott National Forest Home Page:
"The Highlands Center for Natural History, in partnership with Prescott National Forest, is launching the first "Take a Hike" Hiking Spree.
Participants have eight weeks to complete at least eight of the 12 hikes. Hikes must be completed Sept. 27 through Nov. 15. Once a hike is completed, check it off by entering the date on the form (122 KB PDF). Hikers earn a wooden hiking stick and a specially designed metal shield that will be mounted to the stick. The shield will be stamped with a design that reflects the beauty of our local ecosystem and the words "Take A Hike Hiking Spree 2008." In subsequent years, veteran participants will earn a new shield to be added to their hiking sticks."
There are some trails on the list that I haven't tried yet. This looks like a fun way to motivate me to get out and try some new trails.

Re: Prescott Hiking Spree
The East Bay Regional Park District, San Francisco Bay area, had a similar promotion a few years back. It was fun as you have to set a goal to get in the hikes. I met some nice folks on the trails that were also participating. Still have the Pin they gave to those who completed the hikes on my pack.

Reminds me of the Volksmarches in Germany. They do the same thing. (or they did 20 years ago)

Re: Prescott Hiking Spree
You get a sweet "hand crafted" check mark on HAZ indexes once you've logged a trip for a hike
First person to flush the entire index wins a brand new red on black Ferrari. Hot wheels of course ;)
