So many different colors and textures; so incredibly fascinating.
Sedimentary Rock
Rocks created by smaller pieces of rock buried and pressed together.
Strata
Over geological time, sediments are pressed and cemented together to form new layers of rock, one on top of the other, called strata. Generally, younger strata lie on top of older ones, but this is not always the case: over time, Earth movements and mountain-building may have folded or tipped up the strata.
The events of Earth’s history are recorded in the rocks that formed at a certain time. Examination of the strata often reveals the shapes of bones, shell, teeth, or even the outlines of plants. These are fossils, and they can tell us a great deal about life in the past.
