Lots of very cool fish that we got to watch. These are a few of the different kinds of fish we say. These ponds are among the few anywhere that are still being managed in much the same way as they were in ancient times.

There are seven fishponds:
UL and LR: Milkfish, known as "awa" in Hawaiian, are common in Hawaii, including the Big Island.
They can grow to be quite large, up to 3 feet or more.
They were traditionally raised in fishponds by native Hawaiians as a food source and are often steamed to make fishcake.

UR: The Hawaiian boxfish, also known as the whitespotted boxfish or Ostracion meleagris, is a species of marine fish found in the Indo-Pacific, including Hawaii. These boxfish are distinctive for their box-shaped bodies, which are covered in fused, bony plates. They are also known for their ability to hover, spin, and move in various directions underwater, making them appear like remote-controlled drones.

LL: Moray eels are found on the Big Island of Hawaii, particularly in reef areas. Some common species include the undulated moray eel, yellowmargin moray eel, and dragon moray. While not typically aggressive, they may bite if they feel threatened.
