yep, she just got done telling me to be careful when stepping on the green as it was slippery... less than a minute later, I was down. I fell sideways into a bit of a crevice next to the tide pool. Initially when we both looked at the position I was in, we were both a little worried as it looked bad. However, I hung down for a moment and took some more video as I was right next to the tidepool and those black stingy things (Black Longspine Urchin). I got up and was a little gimpy. I bruised up pretty good but it didn't precude any activities; that would have been awful since it was only my second day.

Also known as Diadema paucispinum or Wana, is a sea urchin species found on the Big Island of Hawaii. These urchins are characterized by their long, bluish-black spines that can be up to 25 cm long. They are found in deeper or more protected reef areas and are active at night, feeding on algae.

Ecological Role:
Algae Grazing: They play a role in controlling algal growth on the reefs by grazing on algae.
Reef Health: Their grazing helps to keep reef surfaces clear for coral growth.
