During the period of 1969 to 1972, C. Brewer & Co. developed the Waiakea Resort Village & The Marketplace in Hilo, Hawaii, located near the Belt Road. Details of the Resort: Opened in 1972: The resort included a 294-room hotel and was designed to evoke the ambiance of a Polynesian village, featuring a lagoon, waterfalls, and gardens.
The Punaluʻu Village Restaurant was destroyed by a tsunami in 1975.
The Sea Mountain development faced opposition, and subsequent expansion plans in later years were scaled back or abandoned.
