I unexpectedly stumbled upon the remains of a third mining camp while doing some exploring about a mile from our camp. There were 4 to 5 shacks, all completely collapsed. Rusty tin cans, parts of cast iron stoves and a few old bottles were scattered everywhere. An old car sits in the shade of the tree in the background. On-line research indicates this is probably the mining camp for the last operational mine in the area which closed around 1961 when the asbestos mill about 2 miles away burned down. We tried to find dates on the old cans and bottles without success. But there were rusty steel Coors beer cans which research indicates were probably out of production by 1961.
