This is a prime catch for photographers. We would see two in this spot. They are pretty little so it's hard to get a good shot if you don't have one of those longs lenses. I actually used my Pany ZS 70 for this. They are very bashful. Our photo trip leader had previously scouted their location. We learned quickly though that you must be careful as you approach, so we divided into two groups to try and get photos.


It leaves for the fall and winter months. Burrowing owls use artificial underground nesting sites on the island during the summer months to lay their eggs and raise their chicks.
There are 25 burrowing owl nesting sites on Antelope Island, with many of them having 2 burrows per site, including 1 nest and 1 cache burrow.
The underground burrow locations are not given out to the public in order to reduce unwanted human activity near the nests.
