| no partners | | I got a late start on Friday. I wanted to leave the trail head by 1:00pm but left at 1:45pm. I didn't factor in the three day weekend traffic up the Apache Trail. I made it to the camp by 5:30pm, with 9.96mi (per my gps) and still had light to gather some wood and set up camp. I made sure to string my food up in a OutSak (metal mesh varmit protector) because of the hungry ringtail that was in Hoffmaster's photos from last year in February. When the sun went down it got cold fast. I have a Kestrel to measure altitude and it does a bunch of other stuff. One thing it does is track a log of the temp. It was 28 degrees most of the night and a frosty 25 in the morning. I took my time leaving and explored around a little, checking the creek and whatnot (the creek was running pretty good.) When I got back to the trail head it was 20mi total. BTW the forest service road to the trail head was washed out a little in a few places. A low clearance passenger car might have had trouble. |
