| Well what can be said that hasn't already be said? Nothing. Great weather Great company. The snow and the downed logs definitely added a notch or two to the difficulty of this hike. So did following John and Joe to the ending point which I believe added another 900' AEG to the hike. 16 miles is a respectable distance for a day hike without the obstacles that increased the difficulty. I know for me I have never used up my H20 on a hike and I heard an unfamiliar sound of my empty platypus a good 4 miles from the end of the hike. Things I learned carry more water if you hike with Stiller. I have fortunately reacquainted and developed a good relationship with my trekking poles which I fortunately brought on this trip and will be a more frequent companion in the future. My gaiters would have been nice not to keep my feet dry but to keep the snow snakes from biting my shins every time I post holed to my waist on the way back. I believe my chosen footwear have passed the distance test and judging by the good condition of my feet and lack of blisters or wounds I think they will work for multi day hikes I hope to do this summer with heavier loads. I did have to take my dog for a walk when I got home and a four mile hike today to break down the lactic acid build up. A little stiff after the car ride back to Mesa but ready for the next adventure. It was a great group of people and I look forward to future hikes. |
