The platform overlook has a great bird's-eye view of Bonita Creek running through the canyon down to meet the Gila river. I then started the cottonwood trail loop clockwise down to the 1920's Serna Cabin. From here the trail took me up to the Kearny Monument with great views of the Gila River below. The trail then leads down to and around the Riverview campground with a few off trails leading down to the rivers edge. From the campground the trail then went back up to the desert flats and continued straight back and down to the viewing platform to complete the loop.
I can't believe I've never hiked this area before. Very beautiful place with endless possibilities for hikes right in my backyard. I will be back here soon, Awesome area! |
