| no partners | | Rather nice weather today. Stayed about 90 degrees throughout the hike, plus there was a good breeze going. Got started on the trail which is basically a road to begin with. When the trail heads right to run parallel to the wash, I continued straight to cross. The rest was maybe a mile. Considering how close these petroglyphs are to Verrado, I figured they'd be vandalized to a good degree, but I had nothing to lose. As I got closer I saw what looked like a railing, which turned out to be a barbed wire fence surrounding the rocks. It took away a little bit of the experience, but it's a good thing it's there. I only saw a couple chippings of initials and names. It seems like I gave the area a decent check, but according to the imagery on Google Earth, I missed tiny trail that heads to the south side of the rock. I'll have to investigate next time. As I was approaching the wash on the way back, I heard what sounded like kids... A few steps later, a deer popped out of nowhere and started hopping away. It was moving fast and I didn't want to risk spooking it by trying to follow, so no pictures this time...
Also got to scope out peak 2212. Hopefully I'll make it up there soon. |
