Mesquite/Willow loop with a side trip to Barry Goldwater Peak. 3h 21m up, 2h 24m down.

Cloudy, cloudy day. It was raining/sprinkling for the first hour. Got pretty wet and then put on my poncho. I really enjoyed the rain. That and the breeze kept me from getting too hot. Mesquite Canyon seemed a little smoother than Goat Canyon. I still haven't decided which one I prefer... Added a few inches to the cairn marking the jeep trail, and a few more along the trail. Hopefully people can see them and they won't fall over. There was a van heading up to the Radio Summit. That road must be steep because they were going really slow. Took a brief rest at the top and then started heading down for fear of thunderstorms. Watched an ant carry away a dead ladybug.. Probably not the most ideal day for a summit, but it worked out.

Back on the GC trail, a horned lizard darted across the path (I couldn't help but jump ). First sighting! And then a second sighting a little ways down the trail! The wind really started to pick up once I got on the WC trail. One gust almost blew me into the canyon - that $30 trekking pole is my hero. I was trying to beat the storm that was approaching so I didn't get to fully appreciate the sights on the trail. Some of the cliffs were awesome, though. Walked through a HUGE group of milkweed bugs. They were all over the place; I've never seen so many. It started to sprinkle again as I was closing in on the TH, but that seemed to be the last of it. 82 degrees when I got back to the car. That's what it said when I started!

I was going to do another short loop with the Waddell Trail, but it didn't sound like the best idea at the time. That and the waterfall trail, but there were too many cars in the parking lot. I imagine most of the people I passed on my way out were headed over there, too. The weather was so good, I regret not staying longer.
