| partners | | Left the house at 1:45a to meet the Tortoise and the Father at the north TH and set up the shuttle.
While waiting for them to show, I was once again amazed at the stars up there in the complete blackness of the night.
Starting our hike in the complete blackness and relative quiet (except for the whimpering of one hiker, constantly complaining of the cold), we made our way 4 miles to the East Verde and the official start of this AZT Passage. It climbs pretty steep right out of the river, over loose rocks/boulders, climbing to Polles Mesa. This first part of the trip was non descript except for the half mile section of Catclaw overgrown on the trail.
The trail is pretty thin in spots making a GPS with a good track a must!

The area climbing to and around White Rock Spring was the highlight of the trip. Nice views, nice trail, and a buzz worm that Joe Joe almost stepped on!
The last 4 miles started getting a bit warm, and was littered with melon sized rocks to walk over.
As always, the clan makes it interesting.
Thanks for lunch Dave! |
