In fact, my last stack of photos from the cave are (shocker) on film. You remember, that expensive stuff that used to moderate the number of photos that we took?
I thought that the cave looked pretty good. Except for the broken large cell battery at the entry, tons of cigarette butts and a few spray-painted arrows (how do you freaking get lost in a TUBE for pete's sake!) I thought the place looked pretty much exactly like it did back in the day.
Although I felt better than I had the day before, I was still pretty hazy and off my game. The cool, dark tube was the perfect place for me to come off my migraine hang-over. We timed our visit just right, too, since two large tour groups and several smaller groups of science-campers were headed in as we were exiting.
Other notes for those who may want to explore the tube in the future: gloves help, good sturdy shoes with ample tread for the slippery rocks are a must, and try to remember that there is no such thing as biodegradability in a freezing cold cave. Pack out more human waste than you packed in. |
