A nice hike, as always. Started on the icy south rim at about 7:30, carefully stepping our way down the first few switchbacks. Had 3 friends in town from Denver who'd come to escape the cold...lol.

The sun started peeking out and the chill loosened as we went down. Saw a nice swath of Indian Paintbrush blooming around Skeleton Point and this required a good photo session for my CO friends. Got down to the Colorado and soaked up the warmth on the rafters' beach...stayed there for a good hour chatting with them about their journey and procrastinating our own trek up the Bright Angel Trail. At last, we hauled ourselves out of the canyon bottom by just after noon, and made good time up to Indian Gardens. No more sun - the rim was shrouded in fog again and then a nice steady drizzle rolled in. It wouldn't leave us for the whole way out. The mud was a little slippery and the puddles behind the water bars required you to pay attention! I'd been warning my cold-weather buddies about the heat all week and at least we didn't have to worry about that! Still with all the weather problems, the Bright Angel was packed. Hit the Bright Angel Lodge cocktail lounge on the way out, of course, listening to some live music and relaxing before finding a place to sleep for the night.
