| no partners | | With the Paria holding a steady flow from the rains of the previous week I opted to explore side canyons instead of dealing with the infamous mud. Looking over the conditions of the hikers I met on their way out confirmed I made the right choice.
The sandstone canyons draining into the river hold many cool treasures. Spent the day skirting the Paria and hiking up several side canyons, some with very impressive formations and colors. Not to mention the dark sky and ridiculous number of stars, especially after the moon set.
Quite a few folks hitting this area right now. Cottonwood Canyon road traveling north from Hwy 89 was impassable beyond the Hackberry/Yellow Rock area. The folks at the Paria Contact station mentioned they had 79 people that morning in the lottery for the 10 available permits into Coyote Buttes North. That sounds like more fun than a dump truck full of clowns. |
