The upper car park the canyon is wide and unimpressive. Soon you come to some bed rock outcrops of granite and some small pools, then wash walking and some bushwacking. Sidestep a silted in dam of fair height, with lots of yellow flowers in the watercourse below. The canyon starts to rock up and drop, and the walls rise. You can get through it without technical means but the water polished granite is slick, and you'll likely do some butt scooting and some hand foot scrambling. We had to belay the dog at one spot, he had a new pack on and didn't know what to make of it. Got in some potholes we had to haul him out of too. I'd want a handline if I was doing the canyon with running water. It was pretty dry with scummy potholes. Very pretty granite banding and waterfall after waterfall to route find down with some expansive views and drops. Then more boulder hopping and before you get to the houses in the subdivision and private property pick out a ridgeline and dodge cactus to the car. |
