Friday #23
We set up our shuttle and were on trail by 6:45. The temps were great as were they views. A lot of the downed trees have been cut and as Joe says it helps you stay on trail. It still seemed like we climbed over a couple hundred trees! There was some nice shrub oak and flower patches here and there.Like so many times it seems like the catsclaw sneaks up on you and you have to bleed a little. We stopped for lunch under Mazatzal Peak. While we were there these 4 Ravens flew over in a formation like the Thunderbirds giving us a salute.Maybe you had to be there but I thought it was kind of cool. :) With the help of the gps and maps we all pitched in and found the spring. Joe's filter worked like a charm and he must have filtered 10 quarts the first day alone. I learn from these guys on every outing.A tiny bit faster in the daylight would have saved a lot of time hiking in the dark! :o These guys have great attitudes and the late in the hike pissing and moaning is soon forgotten. We got off trail right before the Park but it was a blessing because we found a water source we didn't know about. We made it to camp after 8:00 and Bruce was ready for a campfire. Sorry Bruce I was just to beat. Joe had not sleeped the night before and he was out even before me. Luckily the skunk Bruce spotted right before camp didn't come to visit that night. We did have a few deer come in to camp and by all the snorted they were doing we must have been in one of there favorite spots.Ahhhh I slept good!!
Sat.#24 The morning after the "walk in the park :o "
We started getting around after 6:00, ate breakfast, folded up camp, pumped some water and were off by 7:30 or so.The Red Hills was in better shape as we probably didn't have to go over more than half a dozen trees. There was also quite a few water pools in the Red rock in the beginning of this section. Some great views on this section and the breeze felt Sooo good. Took us a little over 8:00 hours on this setion then we went to the old Swiss Village for Mexican food. Mmm. Takes a while to pick up Bruce's car at the other end. There was a nice couple camped there and we visited with them for a few minutes and then were on our way home.
This trip was a challenge. Thanks to Joe,Dave, and Bruce for another great adventure! I couldn't have done it without you! :D
