| partners | | I wanted to see some snow so we headed up to Mount Ord and found plenty. Since the hike is all on old jeep road and forest road, I figured this would keep the route pretty visible-- and it worked out great. There was a little more snow than I thought there would be but it was pretty perfect-- just enough to add to the workout but not too much to make it suck. We had the whole area mostly to ourselves. On our way back down, we ran into a couple friendly hunters on the forest road section but that was it. We also found ladybugs crawling around on the snow at the summit.
The only weird thing was finding a 20 yard area about a quarter mile from the summit littered with dead bees-- probably at least a hundred. With all the animal deaths in the news, I figured I'd let the NFS know just in case it was abnormal. The Mesa Ranger District was closed by the time I got home, so I emailed Tonto. We'll see if they think anything of it.
It was a beautiful white day!
(forgive the million pictures-- I took a bunch of the Peeley/Sheep area so that folks might have a better idea of the conditions right now) |
