Out scouting for technical canyon Friday morning and back again on Saturday. The friday morning canyon was short & sweet and had a beautiful narrows but not the canyon I was looking for. Drove back out on that overcast Saturday morning with my buddy. We had techical gear to descend another short & sweet canyon in the area, but the dark clouds hanging over Aztec Peak had him worried so we decided to hold off til another day. ;) So our backup plan was to drive/walk that FR203A and look down into canyons from above. The exposed road had us a little worried about driving back down it when it was wet, so ended up walking the later half of it to get up on the bench. Great views of the Anchas & Cherry Creek down below! :D Scouted a angled drainage out for scrambling back up to the mesa from below. Walked along a mine road above Bull Canyon while checking out the cliffband across the way that climbers climb on. Saw that lower Deep Creek was cool looking with trees & boulders but nothing technical though perhaps up and around the corner in that same cliffband there's some good drops. Dropped down in upper Bull Canyon and saw at least a few rappels in there. Walked further up the road to the Bull Canyon TH but figured it was too late in the day to explore further and the windy day started to turn into a rainy & windy day with some mixed in hail. :o The drainages of upper Coon Creek looked promising. Looking down into middle Coon Creek revealed it be to another vegetated rock hop. The weather was getting rather nasty my mid-afternoon, so we hightailed it back down the road to the SUV.
