| no partners | | Really a nice area I hiked with Brian last year, again came across photos and thought would post them here. A rancher gave us a tip at to some cliff ruins in the area, so we parked on a little traveled side dirt road off the main road and bushwacked to the base of some huge cliffs. We traversed, the day was stormy and we had wind, clouds but no rain. The ruins were hugging a very narrow ledge. Brian climbed up easily but had a hard move a few feet off the deck. I had to work myself up to it, climb a tree, then hang by hands and swing up. I like ruins that are not restored or manicured, a little tumble down, but still hanging on. These were like that. A spring amazingly issued from a crevice in the cliff, allowing the residents to have some water up here at least part of the time. We crawled, sidestepped along the ledge between the structures. A small part of an outer parapet wall was still up.
We searched along the base of the cliffs, found some more evidence, then took a different way down. We came across an amazing grotto area with different colored rock and lots of flowers and greenery.
Later we went to an old cabin area, and hiked in a different area the next day but no ruins were found, just an unhappy rattlesnake and a very cute frog. |
