Semi-bushwhacked to the Castle Rock Trail, and headed down to Burma Road Trail w/ a short stretch on Falcon Road Trail. Down to the Stage Road at Pine Pond. The bird life is exploding across the Bay Area, and today exemplified this. Turkey vultures, red tail hawks, some sort of falcon, 2 flocks of turkey, the brilliant blue western scrubjay was everywhere if impossible to photograph, a hummingbird, red winged blackbirds, California quail, and some mallards all made appearances today. I even heard a bunch of owls towards the end of the hike. Wildflowers were disappointing today compared to last week @ Briones Reservoir. No poppies. |
