On the way back up the mountain to pick up the snowboardin relatives, sister and I did a quick snow hike to the Spring. We tried to get the necessary backcountry permit in town at the FS office (2 different ones actually) but they were closed so oh well.
80% of the trail was still snow and most of that was deceivingly packed until a surprise past knee drop in occurred at random intervals. We made it to the spring (flowing nicely) and relaxed for a little while until we got the pick-up call. Hiked back trying to avoid the sinks but still giggling when they took us and maybe sometimes helping the packed snow out by pouncing on whoever was in lead to try and sink them anyway.
