On the way out met a fellow who had spent the previous day trying to find the TH and was into his second day of attempts. At least I had a mental image of that for which I was looking since I had examined the Google Earth and Bing satellite photos earlier (as of this writing the Bing images happen to be far superior, at least on this one occasion). The hike is short but somehow I managed to go off trail in the pre-dawn and wound up scaling to the top of the hill. This is definitely a place from which to watch the sunrise. The GPS route posted herewith is the return route, but once you find the TH it is probably not necessary. Quite an interesting location with a questionable history. After "playing" around with the camera after sunrise I was off to the Dogie Trail and the descent into Sycamore Canyon Wilderness. |
