However, if you are anywhere along the Control Road, and have a couple of hours to spare, this hike surely deserves consideration. According to the Forest Service markers the uphill climb is 1 mile; but descending the very same route is 1.5 miles. So somewhere along the way your trip adds 50% to the overall length. My roundtrip clocked about 2.19 miles on the GPS, and that included some wandering around near the "top".
The views all along the hike are splendid. The trail is easy to follow and at various points you will know you are on the right path by the exposed metal pipe which makes the journey with you. Note that the title of this trail can be misleading--it does not parallel a watercourse, but instead the title describes your destination. Today, the spring was almost unnoticeable, but by proceding beyond the trail marker you will find the "bubbling" waters. In fact, it would seem that continuing beyond the spring is very doable.
The trail provides some decent exercise as it is entirely uphill (moderate) as you travel northward. Although there are many rocky sections, they are not particularly annoying; nor do they detract or distract from the views.
Didn't see a soul and had the forest to myself. |
