My cousin and I left Escalante and headed to Bryce Canyon. We got to the Bryce Canyon Visitor's Center at 11 AM and it is a balmy 38 degrees! We decided a few days earlier not to camp as planned but stayed in Tropic at a hotel. I don't mind the cold temps but my cousin can't stand anything below 40 degrees when camping. So we decide to do a drive through Bryce as "tourists" today and we have an AWESOME time. We start at Rainbow Point (over 9,000 feet) where there is several feet of snow along the trails....cue the snowball fight! The views are gorgeous along Bryce in this area with those red and white hoodoos, green pines and white snow....At Rainbow Point we meet up with a young German couple Roland and Tanya. They decide to make this little snowman and name him Dave. While Dave looks like he had a lobotomy at Rainbow Point, he quickly recovers and we meet up with Tanya, Roland and "Dave" at the next pull out point, Black Birch Canyon. They brought "Dave". Now Dave has a beret to cover his lobotomy. We all take pictures and head down to the next point "Ponderosa Canyon". "Dave" appears AGAIN and we all get pictures. Tanya, Roland and Dave are a total hoot and must think Americans are easily amused by bringing a 6 inch snowman they named "Dave" from outlook to outlook. We did loose our German friends as we progressed down the road and never saw them again but I did manage to get a picture of them with "Dave".

By the time we got to Fairview Canyon it started to get very overcast AND STARTED TO SNOW so we just went back to Tropic and planned our hikes for the next several days. Peekaboo tomorrow, Fairyland Loop on Wednesday. I'm so excited to be able to spend two entire days in this canyon!!!!
