| no partners | | The weather couldn't have been better. It was cloudy all day, the temps were low to mid 80s, the air was misty, and the stream was roaring due to the previous nights rain. I was in no hurry today. I winged this one on an impulse with nothing else to do. This would be a training run with my new pack at a full 35lb load out, though I was most likely returning home tonight. I made the trip up hiking the first hour, playing around the pools the second hour, then pushing to the Old Trail Camp the third hour. There I sat at 09:15 having achieved my goal for the day with no further plans. Then it occurred to me that I had a rare opportunity to do some exploring as I haven't done for decades. It seems like there's never time to play around when I go hiking. Well, long story short, I took a bit of a break then headed out at around 10:00. I snapped 68 pics, dropped the pack several times to scale boulders, played in the water a time or three, ate lunch twice, chatted with people along the lower trail, making it back to CSP at around 3:30. 5-1/2 hrs is no speed record for 5 mi downhill, but I was able to soak up so much that I had missed on trips before. |
