| partners | | I was super fortunate to get to join in on this organized hike done by Jim. Kyle and John picked me up shortly after 5am to head on down to Tucson. (thanks John for driving). Once at the Catalina State Park Trail Head we met up with Jim and Katie. Pretty much as planned the hike started at 7am sharp. This one was something I have been wanting to do for awhile so thanks Jim for putting it together. In a nutshell I would sum this hike up as long, endurance challenging, very scenic, and at the summit less than rewarding for what you just went through! Maybe anti-climatic? Just below the summit is Fire Lookout which I went into twice. It not only has amazing views, but this one had a very accomodating gent with his doggie. Off in the distance from the observertory which is up top and pretty much the summit was a huge plume in the sky that looked like a strange cloud. Unfortunately not the case. It was smoke from the Wallow fire which continues to burn and pose a threat as the largest fire in AZ history. Probably the coolest part of this hike for me was meeting new HAZ peeps and the Wilderness of Rocks. Oh and maybe the Deer drinking from the stream. Jim thought that it was funny that us "desert dwellers" would find facination with a deer. Great day! Great hike! Great People! I went home with a smile and killed a pizza! Thanks Jim, John, Kyle, and Katie for contributing to a day I won't soon forget! |
