| no partners | | This was my last hike in the park. I originally thought my drive that night was going to be 5 hours and I almost didn't get to do this one, but after goofing off with the GPS, I realized I had overshot by 2 hours.
The park warns of black bear and mountain lions in this area. I saw some bear scat, and some paw prints that may have been from a coyote, but no wildlife to write home about. As usual, the views were fantastic. A good portion of the trail is a couple hundred feet from the edge of the mesa so instead of following it, I chose to walk along the edge. There were a couple alcoves that looked like they may have had some structures built, but I couldn't tell if they were the real deal or work of modern day visitors. Just about every tree was charred from the Bircher Fire in 2000, but there was still green everywhere you looked.
Some storm clouds were moving in while I was on the southern half of the loop, but they passed by as calmly as they had drifted in. A little warm, but much, much better than the 100 degree temps back home. |
