Overslept this morning and woke up at 5:30. Had to change plans, as I was going to do the Supes. Glad I did, it was still raining. Knew I still wanted to get a hike in or I would be in withdrawal all week. :o With the weather clearing and not much time in the day, decided to stay close to home and try to do a quick one. I've been wanting to do Mormon Trail/Hidden Valley for awhile and today seemed perfect.

Got to the Mormon TH and got started at 3:00 P.M. Very persistent grade on the ascent, so worked up a sweat rather quickly. Should have worn shorts, it would have been fine, but if my schedule on this hike was off, it probably would have gotten fairly cold after dark. Not too many hikers on the trail, more bikers than hikers. Hike went very smoothly and the trail intersections are well marked. Descended down into Hidden Valley and it was pretty cool. Down in the bottom it became pretty confusing as to where the "Official" trail was. There are alot of trails down there, plus the wash. I finally decided it didn't matter too much and followed the wash pretty much down the middle of the valley. I kinda got lucky towards the end of the "trail" I was following as I saw a Biker on a trail above me. I figured that maybe that was the "real" trail. Kinda right, kinda wrong. It was the National Trail and I just happened to be looking up at the right time and saw the intersection marker so was able to get on it in the right spot. With the way the valley closed in and ended, I would have intersected it sooner than later anyway following the wash, but didn't have to.

The clouds and weather could not have been better and enjoyed the sunset on the way down. Pretty much flew down the trail, stopping only to take a picture here and there. Ran into two different millipedes, one on the way up and one on the way down. The second one got a little camera shy...

Enjoyed this hike. The climb up got the legs burnin' and the heart pumpin' and then you got a nice rest going through the valley. Beautiful rock formations. A little bit of standing water, but not as much as I would have thought. Thanks for recommending this to a beginner, Joe! :)
