Well we didn't start the New Year quite the way we thought we would. Wendi was sick yesterday and into today so we didn't get out New Years eve and regretfully, we had to cancel on the Picketpost Mountain gang (OutdoorLover, Sun_Hiker, IHike, DBMooner), sorry guys.

By the time I got Wendi settled this morning and after all day cooped up in the house I was getting little antsy. I finally decided to get out there on my own. This hike and Shadow Mountain are hikes that for some reason Wendi never wants to do. So which ever hike I did I was going to crazy with the hills another element Wendi likes in moderation whereas I see a hill as something that has to be...Has to be climbed! After plotting a crazy ridiculous maze of trails on Shadow Mountain just to try to get some kid of mileage out of it and realizing mt98dew had pulled off a similar hike at the beginning of last month I opted for this all out peak assault in this new (to me) part of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves.

I have always been curious about this area whenever driving down Cave Creek and today was my chance to dive in. It turned out that I bit off a little more than I could chew on such an abbreviated day but I came close to completing the bulk of the ridgeline. As the sun dropped though it go right in sight line and made it difficult to actually watch my footing, and made for one good headache to boot. With cliffs with in feet of either side of the the trail I opted to cut it short.

I will definitely put this area on my list of most favorite in town hikes. Wendi felt like she was on the hike with me because I texted her pics from each peak and other minutia from each stage of the hike. I asked if she was as sore as I was when I got home. :sl:

Hope the Picketpost Mountain gang had a good safe hike.
