| no partners | | The holiday visitors had gone home and I could finally get in some hiking. I've been curious about a canyon in the Beaver Creek area for a long time, so out I went, following a jeep road up canyon to its end, then following faint game and people trails along a wash toward some cliffs. I thought there might be ruins up there that might be worth some exploration.
The wash had several pools of water and even some ice in the shady spots. Little birds liked the area, especially a very large flock of robins that zipped passed me into the juniper trees. Mountain bluebirds and quail liked the area, too.
I followed two seperate boot prints to the base of a cliff where I found what appears to be ruined walls around a small alcove. About 15 feet above,an alcove opened up to what appeared to be a room. Someone has used a hatchet to chop down a juniper--I'm thinking they could have been trying to make a ladder.....
Next to the alcove was a cave, filled with sand, but with smoke on the ceiling. I didn't find any rock art in the area. The afternoon light was fading, so it was time to head out. This one definitely needs more exploring. |
