| partners | | I have been wanting to do this for sometime. I live in the shadow of the Goldfields so I have been very curious to explore them and tackle the highest peak in them. Pam and I decided to get this one done before it got really hot. I ended up downloading a GPS loop track from the last group that went to the top of dome. The track ended up taking us on an less then conventional route to the top of Dome, but made for a nice adventure. On the climb up we saw that group of 4 Big Horn Sheep it was cool. I have seen them around Canyon Lake while Kayaking but not this close to home. As we climbed higher up to what we thought was dome the temps were also rising and I realized we needed to be heading to the eastern peak on the west one we were working for at that moment. The climb to the top of this peak lead to some great pictures and nice views of the goldfields and Bull Dog canyon. Even though is was quite dry and hot the breeze at the top was nice. I brought my HT with me and made my Peak Summit Ham contacts. This is becoming a regular thing for me now. While we were resting we got some nice entertainment from a humming bird and some hawks flying around the area. After resting we decided it was time to climb back down. The trip down was tough but manageable the heat and lack of shade and loos gravel made the first 300 to 400 feet tough. Eventually we made it to the jeep road and poured the speed on and before we knew it the cars were coming into view and we were on our way to some great Mexican food at a great local place. Pam is a great hiking partner and I always enjoy her company. |
