As it turned out, it was the perfect hike because of the scenery. The clouds over the Superstitions and the snow on Four Peaks was pretty awesome!
We made good time getting across the flatter stuff to the rigdeline going up and made our way up without incident. Once across the top we wanted to summit Dome Mountain but weren't sure if we could make it down, across and back up, but off we went. Mike took the high road and I took the low road and soon we were up on the summit having lunch. We dropped off that one and headed for the next one.
Somewhere along the way my daily tolerance for loose rocks was used up since every one I stepped on either gave-way or tried to take me down, and I still had the ball-bearing-slope-from-hell ahead as Mike had warned! He wasn't kidding! I might have used up my daily quota of four-letter words on the way down it!
Once on the flat we had a couple miles back to the car. I was tired, sore and hungry by then but happy to have had another great day climbing mountains with Mike! |
