With a reservation in Mexican Hat, Utah for the evening there just wasn't enough time in the day to take any of the guided tours so we settled on checking out the Spruce Tree House ruin. As we were wandering around the ruin it appeared that a large percentage of the visitors today were from Italy. Although it was pretty hot another large percentage were folks so out-of-shape some were out of breath before getting a few hundred feet from the headquarters building. And when it came to hiking the 100 vertical feet back up, well it's a good thing there were plenty of benches. It sure reinforced the belief a huge percentage of Americans need to lead a much healthier lifestyle or they will suffer the consequences. What am I saying, they already are suffering!

Once we found out we'd have to hike out to Pictograph Point on Petroglyph Point Trail to see the drawings, we set off along the trail. We hadn't gone 200' on the trail when we met a couple who asked where the petroglyphs were, stating they had walked and walked yet never came to them. By then we knew the petrogylphs were at the farthest out point of the trail, and once reaching there it would be much easier to finish the loop along the flat surface of the mesa and that's what we told them, but it was obvious there were not up to going much farther. As it turned out, we believe they turned around at a small ruin 3/4 mile from the trailhead, barely 1/3 of the way to the point. We figured as much based on the trail not being very obvious past the ruin.

Although there was a reasonable amount of petroglyphs, it was concentrated in one small area so it took only a few photos to get it all. From there we continue the climb up to the mesa and completed the loop.

I posted all the photos both on HAZ and my website here:
