As we got higher up and little wind and sun setting behind clouds - -- just perfect temperature. Love how quiet the north side of McDowells are. This is a really good work out hike. Those HAZ'ers that like to do Squaw peak up/down 4 or more times - - y'all should try this north Tom's Thumb to East End back and forth (about 45 minutes from new trailhead to East End intersection).
Stayed up at Thumb for a little bit then back down with flashlights. I haven't hiked in moonlight in a really long time. Only bad part is how sandy the trail is - little risky for slipping and twisting an ankle if you're not careful on the way down.
Drinks and burger Greasewood Flat - really awesome date. Hike/drinks date infinitely better than dinner/movie. |
