| partners | | I've been to the Cardinals stadium once. And I drove through Wickenburg to Vegas another time. But generally if it's west of 24th Street, I avoid it. What's this, you say? The west-siiiiiide has hills? And random near-city hiking? I had no idea! In fact it was nearly so pleasant that I would consider crossing over to the dark side again sometime. Maybe.
I know a gimpy hippy who isn't supposed to hike for three weeks who wanted to hike 6 miles and I convinced her to try something easier instead. So 3 miles on a trail around Deem Hills with minimal climbing was the compromise solution. At one point we got between two packs of coyotes who were very vocally communicating with each other (as well as getting the neighborhood dogs in on the song). That was really cool.
Near the top of the saddle, gimpy's knee started to hurt, so we took a lengthy break to give it some rest and enjoy the stars. A couple of mountain bikers made their way by twice as they completed a figure-8. It was a nice night out and we even spotted a couple of the Orionids streak across the sky. Only used the headlamp twice, and only to identify critters. |
