| no partners | | I needed to be in Globe Saturday afternoon, so decided it was time to check out the colors in the Pinal's. Not having the whole day, and wanting the best Bang for the buck... color wise, I drove to the top of the Pinal's in lieu of hiking up. The trip to the top was on 10-12 miles of dirt and in pretty good condition. I even saw a minivan at the top. I took a peek at Pinal Peak and checked out the views from the Comm towers. Next it was over to the secret metal ladder that climbs the rock by the East Comm Tower.
The hike down Six Shooter, started at the Ferdell Lower TH. The colors exploded starting right at the TH. The trail was thick with golden Aspens, and Maples running the gambit from light green, to yellow, to blood red. At the top, some of the trees were just past their prime and the breezes were doing their best to carpet the floor with leaves from the upper branches. There were pockets on the forest floor that were carpeted in the incredible autumn hues.
The thickest of the colors where to the point just down hill from the Telephone Trail intersection.
I continued to the point, where I remembered from my last guided tour from Jim "Pinal" Lyding, show a never ending view towards Globe. After that I followed an old, barely discernible, unmarked road/trail, for a bit. It could be interesting for the next time up there and looks like it takes you 1 mile to FR 112. Maybe a shorter hiking route to the top.
On the way out, I took a short walk down Icehouse Canyon trail to enjoy the Aspens.
This hike was a great option for those who don't have the time, or that do not want to do the extra miles, to enjoy some of the best colors in the state
