| partners | | Finally Kelly and I were going to get to hook up again. We had tried a couple different times before. She's been following my training hikes, such as they are, and recommended the route from 124th St to Sunrise Peak to 145th St and back bypassing the peak. Since I still needed to stay close to town, this sounded perfect.
Surprisingly, Ambika and my trip to Thompson Peak didn't deter her from joining me on the hike and even more surprisingly, JohnLP came too. What a great group though I did worry about John and whether or not he could slow it down THAT much but he was able to keep up . So off we went in the brisk chill of the morning up that awful rocky section.
Kelly and John set a reasonable pace and we tried our best to keep up. They would stop now and again to make sure we were still plodding along and before you knew it, we were already at the first saddle. The next part of the trail is also nice until you have to climb that Peak. I do have to say, that is such a fun route up to the Peak. We thot it would be breezy at top but it was comfortable. We had a very small snack before heading back down and toward 145th St.
That's quite the trip down the Peak on that side as I had never done that before. What a treat that trail is down to the 145th St TH. It is very scenic and in nice shape. However, there were quite a few people. I did decide on the way down that I might just make this side my workout hike after work rather than from 124th St. But then again, I hadn't come back up it yet.
Kelly and John were waiting for us at the TH. Well we did have to stop and take pictures after all. We told Kelly and John if they would like to go ahead that would be just fine. Kelly said she would hike with John to the saddle and then he would take off and she would wait for us. The hike up was indeed a little steep but the temp was perfect so we did just fine; especially with our first time exposure to the scenery from this angle. Yep, we had to take a couple photos here too.
We saw Kelly and John ahead of us about 1/2 mile. As we got up to the saddle (I actually thot we had more to go) both Kelly and John were there. They must have been plotting though as they put me in the lead for the rest of the hike. I somehow managed to get us down the mountain and back to the TH though I'm not really sure how I did as Kelly and I were busy chatting most of the way.
everyone for a great hike. And thx to everyone who helped get me ready for the Hermit Rapids BA Loop in the GC. Much appreciated. And thx to Ambika who told me how to alleviate my new hiking phenomenon the last year of uncomfortable hands that feel like sausages sometimes. You hold your arms above your head and wiggle your fingers or make fists and/or put your hands on your backpack... it all helps get the circulation going.
PS After all of this Ambika came up to my mom's place and volunteered to photograph the oriental pieces for the rest of the afternoon. What a great friend! |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
